1. Boarding House and Structures
Dormitory Houses:
In Mother Mary Colman Memorial we have five (5) dormitory houses, namely;
• Yellow - Bishop Chikwe House
• White - Mother Mary Colman House
• Blue - St. Lucy House
• Green - St. Agnes House
• Red - St. Maria Goretti House
The House-Mothers (Matrons), assisted by the house teachers and house prefects, run each house jointly. These Matrons supervise students' activities in the dormitories, their evening studies and games time on the field.
In order to encourage the students to keep the dormitories and their surroundings clean and tidy, a weekly cleanliness rating is performed and the neatest house is given a prize during the morning assembly on Monday.
To enhance independence, siblings are not put in the same house.
There are competitive programmes such as inter-house sports, quiz, drama, choreography, cultural display etc. between the houses and even with other schools. The house-mothers begin and end each day, with their students, especially at activities outside formal teaching. The different School and House Captains are also co-workers in maintaining order and discipline in the School.
The Refectory and Kiosks:
The school has access to regular fresh food supply especially due to its location in the rural area. The school has its own farm too. We take delight in serving our girls balanced meals to give them the needed growth requirements for study, work and play. Eggs, bread and vegetables are never lacking amongst other energy giving foods served in our daily meals, 3 times a day.
The school also has two (2) kiosks managed by the Matrons to provide anything else the students might need so they will not need to go outside the school compound for supplies.
Power and Water Supply:
The school has an abundant supply of water in its rain forest water reserve and its own water works that supplies fresh potable water to the overhead tanks and the many taps in the school compound.
Besides the power from the national grid, the school has two (2) standby diesel powered generators and a small petrol generator for the office to gaurantee power supply when needed especially at practical sessions and for night-life in the school compound.
We recently added Solar energy to our alternative power supply plan to support reading at night for the girls and use of the computers too.
